Attention Adult Craft Lovers!

Updated: Jun 6

Have you ever wanted to start a scrapbook or junk journal? The Leon Valley Public Library will be hosting our 1st scrapbooking hangouts this summer on June 12, July 10, and August 14 at 1pm. This program will be for adults who love to craft and want to share ideas with each other.

What is Scrapbooking?

  • Scrapbooking is a method of preserving, presenting, and arranging personal and family history in the form of a book, box, or card. Typical memorabilia include photographs, printed media, and artwork. Scrapbook albums are often decorated and frequently contain extensive journal entries or written descriptions.

What is a Junk Journal?

  • A junk journal is a handmade book filled with personal and recycled materials to store memories and ideas. As its name implies, the pages are filled with material that's usually thrown away. Think newspapers, old train tickets, fabric scraps like lace and ribbons, mismatched buttons, stamps, and more.

Why do we do it?

  • It is fun to find the right supplies and put together your words and photos visually pleasingly. It can be very rewarding to share your pages and albums with others.

  • It's fun and relaxing; there's no right or wrong way of journaling. Anything and everything can be used. It's also a low-budget hobby. You never have to worry about breaking the bank.

Come join us at the Leon Valley Public Library if you enjoy crafting. We highly encourage you to bring your own journals and any projects you are working on. Come share ideas and craft supplies if you choose to. We will provide different crafting materials such as paper, glue, tape, scissors, etc. These scrapbooking hangouts will be for 18+ (Adults deserve a safe space, too). We hope to see you there!
